Superior Decay Resistance

One of Western Red Cedar's most valuable characteristics is its well-know high resistance to decay. Cedar's decay resistance is derived from two principal extracts Thujaplicans and a water-soluble Phenolic. These extracts are toxic to decay causing compounds greatly increasing the life of your fence.

Properly finished, Western Red Cedar will last for decades, even in our harsh Dallas, Arlington, Fort Worth environments. Its natural resistance to moisture, decay and insect damage make it the ideal choice for a surface exposed the dreaded Texas heat, sun, rain and cold environments all year round.

Superior Dimensionally Stability

Western Red Cedar is twice as stabile of most commonly available softwoods. "Western Red Cedar" has a low shrinkage factor and is superior to all other coniferous woods in its resistance to warping, cupping, twisting and bowing. It lies flat, stays straight, and holds hinges, gate latches, and lag screws tightly. These qualities also prolong the life of coatings such as stains or paints helping maintain your attractive finish.

Resistance to Termites and Wood Borers

Western Red Cedar is non-preferred to Termites and Wood Borers. Western Red Cedar is toxic to Termites. Mortality rates vary from 100% in several days to 40% in several weeks depending on species feeding on this wood source. Termites will not eat Western Red Cedar if they have access to other wood species with less resistance.

Renewable Resource

Every year, more than 200 million seedlings are planted in British Columbia to reforest areas after logging, wildfire or insect infestations. On average 650 million trees are planted across Canada in areas where trees have been harvested. Canadian Forest companies are legally obligated to track and ensure regeneration success. If a newly planted forest fails, the company must replant the area until it is properly reforested. Forest companies remain responsible for a harvested area until the new growth reaches what is called a free-growing state, which means there is assurance the young trees will grow into a new, health forest.
